Achume Fulatela, also known as Jimmy Backwoods by his fans of his music released his debut single, Vent Freestyle featuring JayFalis over a year ago and since then had been unstoppable.

Backwoods has been consistent and the numbers show as none of his songs are under 1K streams on his SoundCloud account. He has generated over 51K streams from his SoundCloud account ever since the 18th of November 2019 and his most streamed song, Crackheads & 808s is over 10.5K streams. He has worked with JayFalis, Blxck X, X-Nado, Moose to name a few. He’s huge milestone gave him some bragging rights as far as the Hip Hop scene approves him.
“It feels good man, feels amazing. Took a lot of blood, sweat and tears to get where I am. Not forgetting the hard work and sleepless nights trying to perfect my craft because I’m one of those people who always feel as if it’s never enough. There were those moments where I felt like giving up but I figured out that I have a lot of people to prove wrong cause I know I’m gonna make it and everything that’s supposed to happen will happen, all in due time.”
Last year, Backwoods had yet the worst backlash with claims that he allegedly stole a song and according to him, he sampled it. He had a bad reputation to begin with and dropping Crackheads & 808s was an experiment well done because that’s he’s most streamed song. Backwoods said that bad publicity taught him to focus on people that show him love but that doesn’t mean that he hates the people that speak shit about him because he knows that they will come and congratulate him for what he has accomplished and that’s cool. Backwoods also has not been someone whose career has been at peace because every rapper is after his ass and wants to prove their selves that they are better than him. Backwoods had been one artist to mize the dirt and it worked for him because the same artists that sneak diss him, come and apologise after getting no traction from the dirt.
“Being dissed just boosts my confidence cause I low-key feel as though I intimidate those kind of people. So they wanna prove to the listeners that they’re better than me but end up looking like idiots at the end of the day because I won’t entertain cave man behaviour. I have hits to make.”
Earlier this year, Backwoods introduced Dyan Rap sound to us with the sound’s song that shares the same name featuring X-Nado. Dyan Rap is basically a genre that Backwoods created whereby he raps in English with a bit of vernac here and there for him to sound different from other artists. He was mostly inspired by American culture in particular, so his new sound hasn’t in any direct influence had been inspired by Xhosa rappers or singers.

After Dyan Rap track with X-Nado, Pelican High featuring Four4 Max followed as singles of his upcoming EP, Penal Code that could have dropped by now.
“I took it down cause I felt like it wasn’t good enough to be a body of work. I decided to drop some songs as singles. Dyan Rap, Pelican High, Satan which had dropped recently featuring X-Nado, Gunslinger, Moose and Soska makes the list. I have a song with Dxniel Fxrbes and surprise features that I don’t wanna mention that haven’t dropped. I might drop a project this year. I’m just working on a lot of music and hoarding songs to compile a full length project.”
To burst your bubbles, Backwoods charges for a feature because music is his only source of income. His DM is the place to find the price tag. He’s willing to work with artists that are up for it but is not wishing for any feature in any of the artists he haven’t worked with before.
“Honestly speaking, when this whole clout thing was starting I used to fuck everything that moved but as I grew I outgrew those bad habits. I’m in a happy relationship right now and my girl has been nothing but supportive. She understands that I won’t always be on my phone to give her attention cause I’m always busy with something. I honestly wouldn’t trade her for the world.”
Backwoods also opened about the fact that they thought of having a collaborative project with X-Nado but couldn’t since X-Nado is busy with his job. X-Nado is also a fun to be around guy, the easiest person to work with because of his ideas and the best person Backwoods have worked with. Backwoods concluded that every kid out there that wants some piece of success must just work hard, stay focused, trust their intuition and never let anybody tell them otherwise.
