One of the most prominent Komani female rappers, Ivy Rafu had been a blessing in the Komani Hip Hop scene.

Hennessy & Weed rapper, Ivy is one of the New Era Entertainment crew members that consists of well established artists, X-Nado, Gunslinger & Moose. She commented on the claim that she’s not part of the New Era Entertainment anymore and disclosed that the crew is not a recording label, but a group of creatives that assist each other. She’s shared snaps and videos on her Instagram stories of new music being produced by the crew & shooting African Queen music video by her. She says that she wouldn’t have grown to love Hip Hop this deeply if it wasn’t for her old brother, DonGaZillion, who was a rapper too.
I’ve got mad love for rap but mostly music on its own, my old brother, DonGaZillion was the one that introduced me to Hip Hop. He used to rap back in the days when I was in primary. I would say that he inspired me and my siblings to rap cause we are all rappers. He used to take me to the studio with him whenever he had a studio session or when he was out performing. He was paving the way for me cause when I finally gained confidence and wrote my own songs he was the one who made sure that I didn’t lose it. He took me to Hip Hop sessions, I performed there. People loved the fact that I’ve got a sound of my own and along the way I’ve been meeting a whole lot of amazing rappers and they are all different, I can’t help it but love everything about rap.
Ivy’s take on females using their femininity to sell rap music, which translates to nudity is that whatever works for that artist, they should go for it and never mind what people see wrong because some may love it. She also added that we live in a society that normalises everything and nudity is nothing new since Nicki, Cardi B, Rubi and Kim monetise some of their content from it.
I’ve noticed that in almost everything, us women are often told to act like men to be taken seriously and that’s totally bad. This issue like you said that the hip hop industry is mostly dominated by men so I think it’s really safe for us to embrace our feminity cause in that way we bringing in something different into the hip hop culture. We are women and we have to be proud of that . The value that is associated with gender in certain cultures affects how we choose our career paths. That is why we need more women in the hip hop culture cause I believe whatever a men can do a woman can do it better.
Ivy confirmed that something is coming from her and O’kctober Nights musician, Zcasm, and that they will make it happen sooner or later. She concluded that her fans should expect more content and music from her as she’s dropping African Queen music soon and more music soon.
