Ivan Banks has consistently proved that his vision is clear, and his journey speaks for him.

Ivan Banks, whose real name is Zinathi Hobongwana has been exposed to consistent consumption of music as early as a 2nd grader. At the time, he couldn’t control what genre or artist he listened to. Westlife and Michael Jackson were the kind of artists at his disposal and some gospel music. Time passed, and in Grade 6 he started scribbling lyrics and every book of his had lyrics. Again, time rolled like stones and he met his first producer, Master Leo. Master Leo laid the foundation for Banks, polished him enough, and left him to the good hands of Relic. Relic paved a way for Banks, and took him under his arms, showing him the ropes of the music business.

You can say Relic is that seed in the tree that’s Ivan Banks, and advocates for independence in the music industry.

As time went on and I was with Relic’s production, I got nothing but all the love and respect any artist could ask for. Down the line I felt the need to try and also stand on my two feet and see where it could leave me. And I did that back in 2020, and that was the year I signed a deal with Unconfided, under Records which is based in Jo’burg.

That’s when he started working on his debut album which is rumoured to be released this Friday, 19 August 2022. The deal has exposed him to international contacts, like Duoflow from Canada and JMO from the USA. He also stated that prominent producers, Meb Rogers and Sawce Beatz ZA are on the production of his album. He shared the experience of mixing and mastering his upcoming debut album, Didn’t I?

The thrill has been overwhelming, though I have to work and make time to be in the studio,not to mention the strain it has on my relationship,but I’m grateful for having a supportive girlfriend.Not evening mentioning the fact she bought the studio mic I’m currently using.
All in all it was a crazy journey but in the end every artist knows the show must go on.

The single off the upcoming debut album, Rivals was released on 29 Jul. 2022. The song received its first airplay from Umhlobo Wenene FM and is under Symphonic. He further opened up about his girlfriend, Zandile Tapileno.

Yeah, she is hella unique, that’s for sure. The most versatile and smartest person I’ve ever come across.She’s a team player and she always leads,that’s one of the traits I love about her. She give selflessly, and that kinda rubbed off on me.
