Previously referred to as Es Que in the Komani Hip Hop industry, Sivuyise Qomfo rebrands to Ash Lee.
Sivuyise Qomfo travelled quite a mile with his Es Que alter ego and took a break when he felt the need to. I had a sounding conversation with Sivuyise, about his personal life, Es Que as an alter ego and the birth of Ash Lee.
Sivuyise lost his father in a car accident when he was five years old. His father went to work and never came back.
“Okay so I was 5 at the time , I lost my dad to a car accident, it was just typical day , and as usual he went to work but the difference, he didn’t make a come back instead he’s colleagues came to inform us , that he has passed on , that was actually the hardest moment of my life because I had to grow up without a father figure.”
Sivu opened up to having felt his father’s absence in observing the hardships his mother endured raising him up. As a result, his elder brother, Siphosothando became someone close to a father figure.
“He’s (Siphosothando) been there for me since day. I still remember crying for him simply because I stayed with my mom and he was at boarding school. So my mom decided to send me too. Not just that he played a big in me becoming a man (zonke idyan zizo yazi what I mean).”
Sivu started writing music in 2014 and later curated the Es Que alter ego. He is inspired by the likes of Sizzla, A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, Lil Durk, and Young Thug.
Sivu is someone’s father, and that has been one of his proudest moments. He has been such an assertive figure in promoting the presence of fatherhood in anyone’s child’s life. He added that he’s not the one to judge but fathers must be part of their children’s lives no matter the circumstances.
“Fathering a girl in South Africa is a challenge (you worry alot) since there’s this whole human trafficking thing and abuse ( sexual , physical) towards the opposite gender.”

Sivu, whose stage name now is Ash Lee released his new single, Muhammad Ali featuring Four4 Max. Ash Lee’s name comes from him using ‘actually’ in speech when talking, and his friends named him after it. Ash said that Luwii Brxwn, Four4 Max, and Ybn Syre played a role in his career.
