Bulumko Mpange came out of the closet when they was 14 years old to their friends. They came out as bisexual. He lost one of his best friends, who couldn’t handle the news. The friend is a male. Bulumko officially came out as gay at 16, to everyone this time.

“I feel like coming out and its importance is subjective to whoever wants to come out. I can’t tell someone who is in an uncomfortable situation at home to come out because I don’t know what they already go through. Coming out should never be necessary. I first came out when I was 14 years old as bisexual to only my friends and then I officially came out to the world when I was 16 as gay.”

Bulumko’s family didn’t have a problem with them identifying as gay. Instead, they have been waiting for them to come out because their mother just knew. They came out as bisexual at first because of television program. They knew that they had feelings for the same gender but was unsure about girls.

Nkuley Masemola, Rich Mnisi, Moonchild Sanelly, Mj Rodriguez, Billy Porter & Thebe Magugu are Queer media personalities who play a huge role in his curating his content as a creator.

“My content is structured around informing young people from Komani that queer people do exist. By me raising political statements about my identity, I get to bring more awareness to the issues that many people may brush over regarding the queer community. So I feel like Komani is not the place where the extremism of my content should be focused on , I would rather have people focus on my identity and help them grow an understanding of queer individuals in Komani.”
