UNCLETEE IS AFRICAN SPIRITUALITY

Thandile Uncletee Ngqakayi has set her tone as a firm believer of African spirituality and expresses herself unapologetically.

Thandile Uncletee Ngqakayi was born in Cape Town and bred in Whittlesea. Thandile started school at Shiloh and did her secondary education at Nompumelelo High School. She grew up in a family that is unapologetically African, except for her mother, who is also a firm believer of Jesus Christ. She said that as much as African spirituality is what she was fed at home, growing up, she gained even more interest towards it when she became older. I became more interested in African spirituality towards my adulthood because of the things that happen to me, she said. When I asked her about those particular things, she said she can’t disclose.

Thandile was assumed to be a traditional healer, with some saying she’s faking it, concerning the content she displayed on her Facebook account. The fake persona narrative went to an extent of her being questioned about the legitimacy of her virginity. She said that people assuming that she was a traditional healer and faking herself to appear as one due to her content made her realise how ignorant people are and how unaware are they about themselves. She extended that there are a lot of people who don’t believe her when she says she’s a virgin, to an extent that she had to create content sometimes that approved the fake narrative people are upholding.

She became one of the faces of Zuqhame Gali’s clothing brand, DirtySteez earlier this year. She disclosed that she is/was not a brand ambassador nor a hired promoter for the brand, she was simply doing a friend a favour.
