Ayanda Mantshongo whose popularly known as DJ Xandro who made his debut as a DJ in 2010 is leading the wave of Sgubhu in Komani.

In April 2010, DJ Xandro took over decks on his friends who were playing in Nobuzwe Bottle Store and that’s when he discovered his musical gift. Nobuzwe Bottle Store was the first venue he ever played in and spent his amateur years in. In 2016, his musical gift started gaining traction. “In the year 2016, that’s when I was a hit and known by most people. In the very same year I went at Mutile with some DJs I was playing with at a place called Bhejula’s tavern.” he said. Mutile’s owner noticed how DJ Xandro spin the wheels on the decks on his 30 minute set and was impressed. The tavern’s owner approached him and asked his whereabouts and demanded to see him the next weekend. The time passed without DJ Xandro going to Mutile until March 2017. Him and Mutile’s owner then had a verbal agreement where he agreed to be the tavern’s DJ. He worked for the tavern until recently.

He posted a status yesterday on Facebook which showed DJ Xandro announcing that he is no longer working at Mutile. This announcement comes after he was not on decks this previous weekend, replaced by Lufefe Gidzana. It is not the first time DJ Xandro said that he is cutting ties with Mutile without a reason revealed to the public. Just a few weeks ago, he wanted to cut ties with Mutile. With his recent post, although he is secretive about what really went down between him and the tavern’s owner. He displayed an insight of him being disrespected by the owner. DJ Xandro have spun wheels in taverns, Nobuzwe Bottle Store, Kiravee Lounge, Kiddo’s Tavern, Dinangwe’s tavern, Club 702, Naleding, Komza, Bhejula’s Tavern, Empolweni (Guaveni), Man’s, La Aura, YOLO Lounge, Twisters, Manzana and Boundary Pub n’ Grub. He is so appreciative of the love he received from people about his craft. “I feel so good and I see myself as an example of a hard working DJ who is dedicated and knows what he wants in music. I usually say, ‘Music is life, that’s why our hearts have beats.’” he added.

DJ Xandro who have produced plenty of instrumentals is working with some of the local vocalists that he couldn’t reveal. His dream collaboration would be with his idol, DJ Shimza.
