Miss Schools & Tertiary Eastern Cape, Komani Youth Organisation, and Komani Hiking Club have pulled a successful hiking day yesterday in commemorating Human’s Rights Day.

Founder of Miss Schools & Tertiary Eastern Cape, and CEO of Komani Youth Organisation, Thando Nyangintaka had planned with his team to host a hiking day yesterday at Long Hill to commemorate Human’s Rights Day. Nyangintaka said on the 15th of March 2022, (https://newageera.art.blog/2022/03/15/a-promise-land-for-the-future-of-females/) that the hiking day is in commemoration to loved ones who have suffered so much over depression, anxiety, and other mental implications. The hiking day is also a call to ‘No to Bullying’. He added that the day went well besides the challenges of transport they faced that saw some of the people who were interested to bless the scene to not make it.

The hiking day was sponsored by Komani Hiking Club too. I reached out to Zibongile Mnyamana from the Hiking Club, and Mnyamana had to say:
We as Komani Hiking Club besides our core objectives we aim to level each and every mountain within CHDM.Mountains around Ezibeleni and in Komani have became our happy place, ngoba ke we can’t explore other places when we haven’t explored and appreciate the beauty in and around us and use them as our preparatory for our main events.Long Hill is one of those mountains that we use as our preparatory.
When Mr Nyangintaka approached us we ready had s calenders and Long Hill had it’s date as we were gonna use it as our preparatory for Qwempe mountaineering, hiking and camping event that’s gonna be on the 09th April 2022 but him approaching us with today’s date made us try and change our calendar and move it from the original date which we didn’t have a problem with because sathi xa sithetha naye safumanisa ba our main objectives are some how similar although we working in different spaces.
After talking with him we saw the drive and passion we then developed a concept, stating clearly the responsibility for each organisation, outlined and established the working terms.
Today was a huge success, the turnout was amazing,we had about 32 participants who painted the mountain with our South African flag colors.
Charmaine Combi, Secretary of South African Youth Council added her comment.
I am the Secretary of South African Youth Council (SAYC) here in Enoch Mgijima local municipality. SAYC is a civil society organisation that represents interests and aspirations of various youth organisations that affiliate to it. I represent or from the ANCYL youth league in SAYC.
I met Komani Youth Organization coordinator or organiser Thando through the office of Special Programmes Unit – Enoch Mgijima Local Municipality. Thando was looking for sponsorship or donation of any kind for his beauty pageant Miss schools and Tertiary. And was referred to SAYC. SAYC deals with anything positive that seeks to develop young people, we talk and promised him we will be involved in whatever he invites us to.
Unfortunately now during this pandemic things are not normal. Most funds are shifted to cater for covid 19 related issues. The local municipality cannot support us financially at this point. But with other things like venues for public use they really assist us. We hoping in the next financial year things will get back to normal and we will be able to support youth organisations financially.
Human Rights day hiking was a huge success. It was my second time hiking in the same trail long hill mountain. But it was interesting we start on the other side the first side. I was not soo tired after finishing hiking like the last time. I got to meet new people and made new friends. I would definitely do it again. I encourage young people to join events like this they are mind refreshing, they help you social in a healthy and simple way.
Sihle Mahuzi, representative of the Komani Youth Organisation added a comment.
Well I think that from the organization that I went under which is KYO – Komani Youth Organization was a good initiative to encourage the youth to partake in such activities especially in our small town . I for once have been longing to hike here in my own town but didn’t know where to go ,I just wondered . So such initiative on this significant day celebrating our National Rights is a
Good way to raise awareness of both activities and celebrating our national days . So I Thank my Organization .
My experience today was a wonderful experience. I had fun , I enjoyed my walk and I got to see different creatures like monkeys and types of spiders which was scary but also fascinating, I’m very much interested in nature. The trees in their beautiful form , I felt like I was in Alice’s wonder land .
The walk also sent sense of relief physiologically which I got to find ways to deal with my weekly adolescences problems . Really it was a calming and nice experience. I will definitely would try it again .
Amanda Tshabalala, who’s a familiar face to every person using internet in Komani blessed the day too and expressed how happy she was while hiking. She added that it was her first time hiking and it dawned on her to start gym as she did today.
