MODELLING IS MORE THAN THAT

Hlali Katikati was able to build her self-esteem through her love for modelling. Imagine how much boost to her self-esteem when she’s winning titles?

Modelling has grown to be a space where young women like Katikati find a chance to be unapologetically beautiful, inside and out. Unlike olden days when modelling was built in a criteria that favoured systematic beauty, nowadays, modelling is about a growing impact one woman can have with one’s unique beauty to the world. It is that power of a growing impact that Katikati snatched from modelling and ran with. In 2019, she entered for Miss Summer Queenstown with zero experience but by her natural and mesmerising appeal, she scooped a second runner up position. She scooped the same position in Miss Summer Cape Town 2020.

“In Miss Summer Queenstown, I competed with people like me who had no experience and in Miss Summer Cape Town I met people who have been in this modelling industry for a long time. I’ve learnt so much in Miss Summer Cape Town. I have learnt that modelling isn’t just walking a runaway but you got to have love for modelling. You have to be passionate. That’s when I knew that I really love modelling and wanna go beyond pageantry.”

Katikati wishes to also explore in brand work and although she is not selective of brands she wants to work for. She’d appreciate the opportunity of working with any local brand. As passionate as Katikati is of modelling, it’s not something to pursue than being a hobby that will bring her income. She’s studying for something else outside of modelling that she will pursue as an occupation.
