Sterkspruit born artist, Ntsikelelo Ntoyi has a growing impact in the province’s Hip Hop scene and alcohol business industry.

Ntsikelelo Ntoyi who have adopted the name, D.r Idri$$ because of his craftmanship have had this spirit from the beginning. His parents saw the young man’s potential and widened his space to explore his creativity than shrinking it because he was a eligible case for labour work. Lady Grey Arts Academy is where Idri$$ finished his basic education years.

“I experienced a lot personally, mainly because the facility focused on making us better at what we were already good at and I will forever appreciate the Academy for the that. We were taught artistic work. Ranging from dancing, singing and acting. Being the only Academy in E.C, the pressure was alot cause everyone who was there was potentially talented. They were very helpful by having programs and plays that were/are well known throught the nation. One of them is Passion Play. They gave a lot of young people an opportunity to showcase their skills.”

With the services offered by the Academy to Idri$$, he was bound to be this great. Also, his uncle used to play a lot of Kanye West at his home, hence he grew up to make similar music, Hip Hop. Gadaffi is the first song Idri$$ ever recorded with an old friend and as a beginner at the time, was very overwhelmed by people’s positive feedback. Idri$$ later joined Raw Art Movement, a Hip Hop group based here in the Eastern Cape.The group consists of three members, D.r Idri$$, Tony da Vinci(Azaphile Ningiza), and Canna Coast(Philasande Gcanga) who met in high school in 2018 and after that, they have been making music ever since. Their recent single is REGARDLESS.

In 2020, M.M.A Records aws established when Blxck X had come to East London to do music production alongside Idri$$ and Tony. When they got together they feaured out that it would be very easy to create something together because they are already known individually. So joining forces made everything possible for them. Their music is currently sitting on over 28K views in total, including every platforms. Mike Tyson feat. Ka$hCPT is currently over 17K views on YouTube alone. Making it the most streamed song in the local Komani Hip Hop scene.

“Honestly, we are flattered by such news cause when we made a decision to pay for a feature, we didn’t know that it would be this rewarding. It’s really an amazingfeeling. And I think it’s also the most streamed in my region too, Sterkspruit and Aliwal North. In a few months, we are hoping to be the most streamed in the Eastern Cape then the rest shall occur for themselves.”

Idri$$ is not only in the music business by in the alcohol too. Most Hip Hop artists get endorsements from alcohol brands and Idri$$ owns his. Idri$$ co-founded BLITHE wine with Lulama Jika who’s the official founder. The whole point of BLITHE is to have more black owned products except the wine. They will start by expanding in wine flavours and in the near future introduce other types of beverages. Idri$$ is proud of the progress of the brand.

Idri$$ achieved yet a grand milestone in his career last year when he made it in the top 10 of Sportscene PUT ME ON that put on artists like Lucasraps, Indigo Stella and Costa Titch.

“I was overwhelmed as you guys can see on the interviews that it was my first professional breakthrough. I will forever be grateful for that moment. I learned that people are not what they portray on social media. And people should never forget that.”
