Aliwal North based Hip Hop rising star, Mvgnum D. Flex has been featured on SlikourOnLife radio and explains why.

Mvgnum D. Flex whose real name is Shaun Dingashe started showing interest in music, specifically Hip Hop in 4th grade. His schoolmates and him used to mumble rap over beatboxing and at the time it was only love for the pleasure that came with playing. There was zero passion. He only had growing passion for music though as someone who looked up to his mother most of his life who was a choir member. Through his mother’s influence and solid words she raised him under, “Never allow people to tell you what you can do and can’t do.” he found himself forcing himself to join a choir group. Although he grew fond of music and Lauryn Hill in all music can possibly be an influence, Flex was a sport person. Playing rugby, he quitted in the 6th grade and decided to focus on athletics strictly. Athletics made Flex run for a heartbreak that made him write his first song in the 7th grade. The title of the song is 17 year old cry which he dropped last year. His love for art and drama since acting was his major interest despite having the heart for music. He enrolled in Lady Grey Arts Academy where M.M.A Records rappers, Tony da Vinci and Dr. Idri$$ Ex did there higher education at. Flex is shy and his sporting abilities spoke for him and be it he wasn’t athletic, he’d be a pooper who missed out on his dream in an art school. His acting passion was short lived when he joined Design Club at school where fashion, modelling, hip hop, filming and photography were categories to align with. Hip Hop was what Flex wanted to try out but Tony and Ex made him feel like he’d be seen wack because they were too good to be true. Mrs Pela who held the Hip Hop section in Design Club challenged Flex to drop a bar in front of Tony and Idriss and he hesitated. He was told that he would not leave until he spits a bar. He finally did as instructed and Tony and Idriss were impressed. Ever since, Flex gained confidence as a rapper and recorded his first uploaded song, The Begining and End Freestyle with Tony and Idriss’s help. His career has flourished ever since. He wishes to do more music with the likes of Jimmy Backwoods, JayFalis, Blxck X, Middle Man, X-Nado, Dr. Idri$$ Ex, Simon Jay, Simon Jay, Thriller Ge3, Braelyn Leigh, Yung Eternal Flowz and most importantly according to Flex’s list, Zcasm.

Flex had a privilege of having his latest single, Bahd Man Tingz to be playlisted on SlikourOnLife radio show. It was the Friday before the last when Naardie’s song was played on SlikourOnLife radio show and Flex got curious and asked for Naardie’s assistance to get his song to be played too. Naardie told Flex that he should send his SoundCloud link to SlikourOnLife email address and he did although he didn’t believe in that since Slikour gets like a thousand emails a day. Days passed and when Flex was going to school previous Monday, he got a reply from SlikourOnLife team saying that he should send a copy of an mp3 file and his picture. He couldn’t believe his eyes and in misbelief did as instructed. He didn’t know when the song would be playlisted until he got a DM that his song will play by a social media friend. He was shocked when he saw that everything fell into place.
Although his acting passion seemed short lived, he plans to do music as a side hustle whilst he prioritises screen acting.
“Personally I’d like to think that Aliwal North is less resourceful. I say that not to shame my hometown or anything but since the beginning I’ve always felt like this town does not deserve me, not bashing it out by saying there’s no support, but my fan base is not here honestly. In terms of resources, it’s all about who you know, I never depend a lot on other people’s resources because I’ve learnt the habit of working alone, for 1-2 years I’ve been making music with my phone, [recording, mixing and mastering etc]. It’s just a matter of having to work with what you have honestly because the prices these people put out so you can use their resources is really unfair but ey people tryna eat so who am I to judge em. All I can say to a kid that would be in a same situation as me is that do you because at the end of the day that’s all you have”
